Sandwich Panel Assembly Guide: Detailed Steps for a Successful Installation (Vol. 2)

Continuing our series on the assembly of Sandwich Panels, in this second volume we will delve into the detailed steps for a successful installation: 'Sandwich Panel Installation Guide'. If you have not yet read the first volume, we recommend doing so to understand the preparations and necessary materials.

Steps in Sandwich Panel Installation

Sandwich panel assembly is a straightforward process. Below are the steps to follow for a successful sandwich panel installation:

1- Selection of Structure Type

In this initial phase, the choice of support structure type will be crucial as it requires strong and sturdy foundations. The decision on the type of material will affect the type of screw used to fix the panels to each other and directly to the beam. Sandwich panels can be fixed to metal structure, concrete, or wooden beams. We recommend informing our technical advisors about the type of material used in your project to provide the appropriate screws. Each screw must be driven into the support material at least 30mm to ensure optimal grip. The recommended distance between supports should be 1.5m. The diagonals of the structure must be perfectly squared and aligned with each other.

In the case of some manufacturers, although not common, the screw is accompanied by a special steel clip that connects the two sandwich panels together, providing greater security and protection against leaks and moisture. The metal coating and screw will be completely invisible once the finishing cover is placed on top.

2- Material Handling

Sandwich panels arrive at their destination typically in packages perfectly organized according to the requested lengths. These packages must travel on flat surfaces and be securely tied down to prevent rubbing and unwanted movements. They must always be covered with tarps or, conversely, in perfectly closed containers. Upon arrival, the unloading process must be rigorous to ensure that no panel is damaged.

Although we always recommend paying attention to all details, it is also true that anyone can handle the material themselves.

3- Placement and Fastening

  • During assembly, the panels will be individually extracted from each package. The correct way to transport the panels is horizontally and avoiding dragging one over the other to prevent excessive deflection and buckling that could affect the joint between panels and interior insulation.
  • Placing the first panel is perhaps the most delicate moment of the entire installation because it will determine whether the rest of the panels are well fixed and aligned with the rest of the structure. Once placed on top of the structure, we must ensure that the panel is perfectly squared and parallel to the edge of our support. Once in line, we screw the end of the panel with the specific screws until reaching the structure penetrating about 30 mm. This action can be performed with a screwdriver.
  • Clean up after each screwing to remove excess shavings to prevent future oxidations.
  • Each successive panel is taken to its position, placed on the structure next to the first panel, and after checking that it is parallel to the previous one and at the same distance, they are joined together using an assembly system. In this way, the sandwich panels are held together. Repeat this process with all panels until the roof is completed.

In the case of the Roof Tile Sandwich Panel, the installation process is very similar although it has different details. Feel free to contact our experts for more information.

Accessories... and the Perfect Complement

To make the most of the functions of our products, at Panel Sandwich Group, we recommend installing Accessories that enhance the qualities of all construction projects. The Finishes or Accessories are elements made of galvanized and precoated steel. Among their highlighted functions are:

  • They allow completing the installation of the Sandwich Panel and providing a clean and attractive aesthetic finish.
  • They guarantee complete sealing and sealing in all those vulnerable areas where the polyurethane foam is exposed. This prevents rapid degradation or the appearance of fungi and substantially increases the service life of the sandwich panels.

We always strive for excellence in every project. Therefore, we offer our clients products that enhance the qualities of each work and maximize performance.

This is the case with our Skylight Panels. This product complements the rest of the Insulated Roof Panels. When installed together with these, they allow light to pass continuously or discontinuously through any roof.

The purpose of this type of translucent material is clear: to achieve natural lighting, improving efficiency and energy savings in the room.

With these steps, the assembly of your sandwich panel should be clear and direct. But there is still more to learn. In our next and final volume, we will discover some final tips and recommended tools to ensure a perfect finish.
